Outreach

We are called to be the hands and feet of Christ to the world

Through our many outreach ministries and partnerships at Pointe of Grace, we invite you to participate where God has called you to serve and love your neighbor, listening to the suffering and oppressed, and being an advocate for God’s justice and mercy in the world.

Packs for Kids

On each first Sunday of the month at Pointe of Grace, donations are collected to support the Mukilteo School District Program, Packs for Kids, a non-profit ministry to feed children in the Mukilteo School District on the weekends during the school year. Packs for Kids is designed for students to receive a backpack filled with non-perishable food on Friday to support their families through the weekend. Teachers and counselors select the students who will participate in the program for the school year based on need.

If you would like to support this ministry financially, you may give via online or by writing a check, payable to Pointe of Grace and marked “Packs for Kids” clearly on the memo line. If you would like to support this ministry through donations of supplies, please click here for a list of the needed items. Please check for expiration dates before donating. If you would like to be a volunteer in this ministry through organizing donations or to deliver to the local schools, please contact the Packs for Kids coordinator, Colleen Nollette.

Kitchen Garden

The Kitchen Garden Ministry’s mission is rooted in providing garden access to families and individuals who would not ordinarily have space to plant vegetables. We provide a convenient location for growing healthy food, enabling our neighbors to mitigate food insecurities and improve access to affordable, nutritionally-dense food.

During our inaugural year, 2020, we served 24 racially diverse households from Mukilteo and surrounding communities. We also distributed produce to an additional 100 households through food distribution programs. More than 20 children accompanied family members to engage in gardening activities and participate in creative outdoor play. Thanks to a pandemic grant from the national Lutheran church organization (ELCA), we were able to offset startup costs and infrastructure expenses.

This spring, there are already 18 households participating, including at least 17 children. Thanks to an Eagle Scout project, we now have a dedicated children’s play area and a restored basketball hoop. Another Eagle Scout project bolstered our continuous efforts in water conservation by installing a gutter system on the greenhouse to collect rain water into barrels. We received three additional rain barrels in celebration of Earth Day from the City of Issaquah. The Kitchen Garden also now has picnic tables and space available for small gatherings. Thanks to the ongoing efforts of community and congregation members, a blueberry patch was installed, additional beds were added; and we have a “wall of strawberries.”

Questions? Please email gardenatpointeofgrace@gmail.com.

Hours & Days for gardening time for each garden plot will be coordinated so that safe social distancing is practiced. Everyone in the garden must wear a mask at all times and practice safe social distancing.

Seed and starter donations are welcome.

All for Peace

Grief & Gratitude Support Group

Life is full of joys and struggles. It helps to have a place to take all which is on our hearts and have it held by others. During these uncertain times of the world, the one thing which we hold certain, is God’s unconditional love. As we cry, God cries with us. As we rejoice, God dances alongside. The Grief & Gratitude group is newly formed. It is a place to share and to hold other’s stories. We will meet on-site the first Sunday of each month, starting in October, 12:30pm-2pm. All are welcome. If you would like further information, please contact the office or Pastor Pam.

Difficult Discussions: Racism

This ministry was formed in response to the George Floyd murder in May 2020. We are a group of folks from multiple churches and the community who believe there are really important conversations about racism which we need to have, but also realize that those conversations are likely to be difficult, even uncomfortable. We are learning to listen without judgment, to understand without complete agreement, and to grow together. Our goal is that these discussions will lead to individual and group actions toward ending racism.

We have guest speakers, do book studies, attend various trainings, plan field trips to help expand our exposure and knowledge of people who may be of a race, religion, or national origin that differs from our own, and attend services of other churches/religious houses of worship in hopes of building connections and relationships with folks in our communities.

Kindness Rock Garden

During the beginning weeks of the pandemic, the world was in turmoil and at a loss for hope. At Pointe of Grace, we recognized the need to spread more hope and kindness in our community as people walked by the church during the shut-downs and weeks of isolation. So a “Kindness Rock Garden” began. This garden is intended for anyone to share words of inspiration, hope and kindness. Anyone can take, paint, and share. If you need rock supplies, please let the church office know. We hope you will participate in this simple and yet, life-giving outreach ministry.
